Daniel Smytka

Daniel Smytka is chief operating officer of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company's Europe, Middle East and Africa business. He was named to the position on March 8, 2016.

Prior to this appointment, Smytka had been a leader in the company's Asia Pacific business for seven years, including four as president of the region. While president, his business grew volume, share, and earnings in many key markets in the region; increased focus on high-value-added segments and improved operating efficiency, leading to operating margin growth; reacquired exclusive rights to Goodyear-branded consumer tires in Japan; and entered the commercial truck tire segment in China. In addition, Smytka oversaw the opening of the Goodyear Development Center in Pulandian, China to enhance the company's relationships with vehicle manufacturers and better serve customers.

Smytka joined Goodyear in 2008 as vice president of Asia Pacific's consumer tire business, and subsequently led the relocation and expansion of the company's state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Pulandian.

Smytka has more than 25 years' experience as a multi-functional senior executive, with global leadership experiences in the areas of sales/marketing, product management, supply chain management, finance, and Six Sigma Quality.

Prior to joining Goodyear, Smytka was president of the North American Building Systems & Services division of Carrier Corp. from 2007 to 2008. He previously worked for 17 years at General Electric Co., where he held positions including president of its Engineered Systems division, president of the Asia Pacific Consumer and Industrial group, and general manager of the refrigeration product line.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Smytka earned a master's degree in corporate finance and operations research from the University of Memphis. He received his bachelor's degrees with dual majors in business economics and psychology from Creighton University.
