USTMA Recognition

At the spring 2019 U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) board meeting, Goodyear was recognized during the 2019 Sustainability Awards for Safety and Health Leader category, which highlight member companies for excellence and improvement in worker health and safety.

Steve McClellan, president, Americas and USTMA board member, accepted the award on behalf of the company at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. "The safety of our people is our top priority at Goodyear," said McClellan. "We continue working on improving safety practices in our manufacturing facilities."

In recent years, we have achieved a number of safety milestones at manufacturing plants in the Americas region. To name a few:

  • Our OSHA Incident Rate, which measures workplace injuries, has declined by 37% over the last five years and by 15% in the one-year period from 2017 to 2018.

  • All four of Goodyear's U.S. Chemical facilities have earned the prestigious OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) certification, which is only awarded to institutions that exemplify an unwavering commitment to safety. The latest to begin the rigorous certification process is the Danville, Virginia tire plant.

  • In addition to the mandatory safety training required of all plant associates, a serious injury prevention program and a safety leadership curriculum for plant leaders have also been implemented.
