Goodyear was recognized as one of Northeast Ohio's top-ranked companies for LGBTQ Equality in the recently released 2019 Corporate Equity Index (CEI) from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC). The index, included as part of HRC's annual report, assesses corporate LGBTQ inclusion policies, practices and commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Goodyear scored 90 out of 100 possible points, the same as last year. The guidelines around the CEI criteria are becoming more stringent each year, requiring companies to continually improve their LGBTQ policies and programs to be considered for the index.

This year's survey focused on LGBTQ supplier diversity policies and outreach programs. With assistance from Goodyear's Supplier Diversity Teams, the company successfully achieved the new supplier diversity criteria requirements. Goodyear also made strides in the cultural competency space through additional training offerings from our Learning & Development Team and Lunch and Learn sessions hosted by Goodyear's HERO ERG. These additional efforts were instrumental in maintaining Goodyear's score.

Specific measures of the CEI include:

  • Company policies around discrimination for sexual orientation and gender identity

  • Equivalency in same-and different-sex spousal and domestic partner medical and soft benefits,

  • Equal health coverage for transgender individuals

  • LGBTQ internal training and best practices

  • Employee group or diversity council

  • Distinct outreach efforts or engagement to broader LGBTQ community

  • Inclusion of LGBTQ suppliers

  • Contractor/supplier non-discrimination standards

  • Philanthropic giving guidelines
